Prominent ears:
The term, 'Prominent ears' denotes ears that irrespective of their size protrude or extend from the sides of a person's head. This gives the impression of an abnormal appearance as the normal external ear(pinna) is less than 2cm from the side of the head. This forms an angle of less than 25 degrees. A person with this condition who have ears that appear prominent when viewed from either the front of his face or the back.

Ear reconstruction:
For the purpose of reconstructing an entire ear or even just a portion of the rim cartilage, the cosmetic surgeon has to harvest a cartilage graft from the patient’s rib cage. This is then sculpted into an auricular structure that is placed under the temporal skin of the patient’s head. The skin cover encompasses the cartilage framework or the ear prosthesis. Once emplaced and anchored with sutures, the cosmetic surgeon then creates a outer ear (pinna) of natural proportions, shape and appearance. Over the next months and using follow up surgery, the cosmetic surgeon then creates an earlobe. The surgeon also separates the reconstructed Outer ear from the side of the head in order to create what is termed a 'tragus' or the small rounded structure that located right before the external entrance to the human ear canal.
