According to Gulf News, almost 70,000 Emiratis travelled abroad to Thailand for medical treatment in 2006. The figures represent a steep rise from the previous year. In 2005, there were some 48,802 medical tourists and the year on year trend shows continuous growth in the medical tourism industry.

Bangkok Eastern Hospital Group (part of the Bangkok General Hospital group of hospitals, which also include Bangkok General Hospital, Samitivej Hospital and BNH Hospital in Bangkok) has decided to cut prices for lots of services by around 20%. This apparently in response to lower consumer purchasing power.

For Heart, Brain and Cancer treatment SJMC have the following technologies and capabilities/expertise to offer:
64-slice (PET/CT) Scan System (the only one in South East Asia) for oncology, cardiology and neurology, and to treat diseases; it makes diagnosis of cancer and other lesions far more accurate. Eg. compared to an angiogram, this scan is non-invasive and in addition to showing the extent of blockage/damage to heart vessels, the PET component more importantly can show the extent of the heart functionality. As for cancer, it is invaluable in staging and re-staging of the disease.
We also offer Gamma Camera Imaging System(dual head), for renal, bone imaging etc. Nuclear Medicine Therapyfor highly specialised therapy procedures is also available. This is the only private centre in the country which provides a full range of nuclear medicine therapy services that include: Iodine-131 therapy for Thyrotoxicosis and Thyroid Cancer, Yittrium-90 therapy for Lymphoma, Iodine-131 Lipiodol therapy for Liver Cancer, Phosphorus-32 used in pain management of cancer patients.
SJMC have the only Linear Accelerator in Malaysia with a 120-leaf Multileaf Collimator giving a more accurate 3-D conformal radiation treatment capability / modality; this enables Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) andTotal Body Irradiation (TBI) prior to Bone Marrow Transplant (the only private hospital in Malaysia and one of few in Asia to be able to do so).
They have also installed the micro-Multileaf Collimator and the Novalis ExacTrac System from BrainLab, thus making this machine the first in Southeast Asia capable of performing whole body Dynamic Conformal Stereotactic Radiosurgery (Dynamic Conformal SRS) and also the sophisticated Image-Guided Stereotactic Radiosurgery (Image-Guided SRS). SJMC will be offering High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapytreatment at end of this year for a wide range of oncological diseases, such as Cervical cancer, Nasopharyngeal cancer, Lung cancer and Breast cancer.
Also available in SJMC is the 3-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)System, which utilises computers and magnetic fields instead of radiation . The 3-Tesla MRI has the distinct advantage of acquiring diagnostic information significantly faster than any other MRI systems and enables doctors to improve the diagnosis of a wide range of conditions, including stroke and perfusion studies.
Our Dual source, 64-slice CT scann is twice as fast as traditional CT scanners, allowing for accurate diagnostic studies even if patients have rapid heart rates. With this device, beta blockers are not mandatory (to slow the heart rate), but the image quality is better. Accurate coronary CT angiograms can be obtained even in the presence of atrial fibrillation.
