Tourism in Thailand
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. It is a blend of the East and West, traditional and stylish. Ayutthaya (at a distance of 76 km from Bangkok), the old capital from 1350 to 1767, is today visited chiefly as a historical site. Bang Pa-in Palace, and Bang Sai Folk Arts and Crafts Centre are places that one should take time out for visiting.
Since the 80s Thailand's capital city, Bangkok, has changed into a modern, exciting and fashion conscious city. Unlike other asian counterparts, Thailand, in the heart of Southeast Asia was never occupied by foreign powers. It has thus kept its unique culture and heritage unchanged. Bangkok offers visitors the opportunity to experience fascinating glimpse of Thailand's gentle culture with an amalgamation with the western influences. Bangkok demonstrates an acute serenity at tranquil temples or monasteries amidst the busy sounds of the chaotic urban ambience.
A few hours from Bangkok is Pattaya, the renowned recreation centre on the east coast. Its sparkling sand, clear blue sky and vast ocean attract foreig tourists and also localites. Although Pattaya is the most famous destination in these parts, there are many other places of interest in this province - Khao Sam Muk, where stands the sacred Chao Mae Sam Muk Shrine. A good diving experience and marine life watching through glass-bottomed boats off islands near to Pataya-- Ko Laan, Ko Lin and Ko Pa is a unique experience.
The hotest tourist attraction in the South is Phuket (862 km), the biggest island of Thailand located in the Andamans Sea. Over the last few years it has become one of the most popular seaside resorts of the world. In case one finds Phuket a little too crowded in the peak tourist season, then Samui Island of Surat Thani (644 km) is an alternate hot spot.
